Privacy Policy

Overview

Duplicate Wizard processes all files locally on your Mac and does not collect, transmit, or store any personal data through the app. This privacy policy covers both the app and the duplicatewizard.com website, and explains exactly what is and is not collected in each.

Data Collection (the app)

The Duplicate Wizard app does not transmit or store any data outside your device, except for functionality managed directly by Apple as described below. The app contains no analytics, no telemetry, and no third-party tracking SDKs of any kind.

Local Processing

All file scanning, hashing, and comparison happens entirely on your Mac. No file data, metadata, or hashes are transmitted to any server. The SHA256 hashes used to identify duplicates are computed locally and exist only in memory during the scanning session.

File Access

The app only accesses folders you explicitly select through the macOS file picker or drag-and-drop. The app runs inside the macOS sandbox, which limits its access to only the folders you choose.

Duplicate Wizard reads file contents for the purpose of duplicate detection. It never modifies file contents. Files are only moved to the macOS Trash when you explicitly confirm the deletion.

No Accounts

Duplicate Wizard does not require an account to use. There is no sign-up, login, or user registration of any kind.

No In-App Tracking

The app does not include any analytics frameworks, advertising SDKs, or tracking pixels. No usage data is collected or shared with third parties from inside the app.

Website Analytics

The duplicatewizard.com website (which is separate from the app) uses Cloudflare Web Analytics to measure aggregate visitor traffic. Cloudflare Web Analytics is privacy-friendly: it sets no cookies, does not use fingerprinting, does not collect personal information, and does not track visitors across other websites. Only aggregate, anonymized statistics (such as page views, referrer, country, and browser) are available, and they are used solely to understand how the website is performing.

This applies only to visitors of the website. It is unrelated to the app, which contains no analytics.

App Store Purchases

Purchases are handled through the Mac App Store. Apple's privacy policy governs the purchase transaction. No payment information is received or stored. Purchase verification is handled locally through Apple's StoreKit framework.

Apple & App Store

Duplicate Wizard is distributed through the Mac App Store. Apple independently provides developers with aggregate, anonymized statistics — including download counts, crash diagnostics, and App Analytics metrics for users who have opted in to share with developers — as part of its platform services. We never receive personally identifying information through these reports. This collection is governed entirely by Apple's Privacy Policy, not by Duplicate Wizard.

Third-Party Services

The app uses no third-party services, SDKs, or frameworks. It is built entirely with Apple's native frameworks (SwiftUI, Foundation, CryptoKit). The website uses Cloudflare for hosting, CDN, and the privacy-friendly Web Analytics described above.

Data Retention

The app collects no data, so there is none to retain or delete. Scan results and session state exist only in memory and are discarded when the app is closed. Aggregate website analytics are retained by Cloudflare according to their policy; no personal data is involved.

Changes to This Policy

This privacy policy may be updated from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated date.
